The word chakra comes from Sanskrit and means wheel or disc. In Vedic tradition, chakras are described as spinning centres of energy located along the central axis of the body, from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.
This knowledge is not new age. It comes from texts that are thousands of years old, particularly the Vedas and Tantric scriptures of ancient India. It was developed by people who spent entire lifetimes in careful observation of the body, mind, and consciousness.
The seven centres and what they govern
- Muladhara (Root) - Base of the spine. Governs safety, stability, finances, physical health, and your sense of belonging.
- Svadhisthana (Sacral) - Lower abdomen. Governs emotions, creativity, relationships, pleasure, and reproductive health.
- Manipura (Solar Plexus) - Upper abdomen. Governs confidence, willpower, decision-making, digestion, and personal identity.
- Anahata (Heart) - Centre of the chest. Governs love, compassion, forgiveness, grief, and emotional balance.
- Vishuddha (Throat) - Throat. Governs communication, self-expression, truth, and the ability to listen.
- Ajna (Third Eye) - Between the eyebrows. Governs intuition, clarity of thought, imagination, and inner guidance.
- Sahasrara (Crown) - Top of the head. Governs spiritual connection, life purpose, consciousness, and the sense of meaning.
Blocked, imbalanced, or open?
A chakra that is blocked is like a pipe with an obstruction. Energy cannot flow through it properly, and the areas of life it governs begin to suffer. Someone with a blocked throat chakra may struggle to speak their truth, develop recurring throat issues, or feel chronically misunderstood.
Energy imbalances often show up as physical symptoms long before they become serious health concerns. The body speaks. Most people just have not learned to listen.
An imbalanced chakra may be overactive (too much energy, leading to aggression, obsession, or anxiety in that area) or underactive (too little energy, leading to numbness, avoidance, or weakness).
How crystals work with chakras
Different crystals have different energetic properties that correspond to different chakras, partly through their colour (which relates to light frequency), partly through their mineralogical composition, and partly through centuries of observed use.
At Shreem Crystals, every personalised bracelet is designed by studying your specific chakra profile through the consultation process, then selecting the combination of crystals most likely to support balance and flow in the areas where you need it most.
